John Pomeroy is leading a funding application to the International Development Research Centre on “Enhancing Community and Ecosystem Resilience to Climate Change Impacts and Ensuring Food Security in the Nile Basin” in collaboration with University of Dar es Salaam – Tanzania, University of Nairobi – Kenya, Makerere University – Uganda, University of Addis Ababa – Ethiopia.
Discussions are at an advanced level with the Pan-Third Pole Environment Program, Institute of Tibetan Plateau Research, China to implement MESH modelling strategy in the Tibetan Plateau. As part of this collaboration, four exchanges of highly qualified personnel including student, postdoctoral fellow, and research scientist are planned for each year. The exchanges are supported by the University of Saskatchewan.
Alain Pietroniro, lead for the GWF Core Modelling and Forecasting team gave a presentation at the European Geophysical Union conference on GWF modelling and forecasting strategy. Consequently, the delegates from Israel expressed interest in implementing MESH on their river basins and would provide access to Israel drought models to GWF core team.
Currently, the GWF Core Modelling and Forecasting team and the Pillar 3 project Integrated Modelling Project for Canada is in the process of implementing MESH in Iran, which is envisioned to happen via transfer of knowledge through a scientist who is currently visiting the University of Saskatchewan.
Discussions are in progress with the government of Kazakhstan to develop a modelling strategy for major river basins in collaboration with the GWF Core Modelling and Forecasting team.
Discussions are in progress with CSIRO Australia, which has expressed interest in funding a project to implement MESH model in Indus River Basin through Australia Aid.
On behalf of the European Commission, the Copernicus Climate Change Service (C3S) is developing a Climate Data Store which will make climate information freely available to users from 2018. The current C3S_422_Lot1_SMHI contract (GLORIOUS) will demonstrate the user's uptake of relevant and high-impact climate information from the Climate Data Store worldwide, addressing sectors such as health, safety, water-security, transport, biodiversity, tourism, agriculture and food production. The GLORIOUS team consists of three partners, eight champion users from multi-national companies and global organizations, and 12 regional or local users from across the globe.
Global Water Futures (GWF) is proud to be one of the 12 regional users participating in GLORIOUS that runs June 2017 to December 2018. Local and regional Climate Change Impact Indicators (CIIs) based on the global services of C3S will help GWF to combat the societal challenges Canada experiences and adapt to new climate conditions. The new Global Service for Copernicus in the 'GLORIOUS' project will improve our decision support products and water management systems through seasonal and climate forecasting.

The GWF Core Modelling and Forecasting team is in discussion with partners in Luxembourg about applying MESH to the Mosel River in Europe.
In 2017, GIWS became a member of UCAR which aims to train the next-generation workforce and collaborate with partners in government and the private sector to advance our understanding of the Earth system for the betterment of society.
