Women Plus Water

"I am from Ghana, pursuing my doctorate at the University of Saskatchewan, Canada"

"My lived experience made me examine women’s water fetching experiences in rural Ghana. I want to bring attention to voices that have been neglected in existing body of evidence"

"I am committed to exploring rural women's experiences of water fetching outside premises in Ghana and Africa to engender change"

Water Experience

I have a quantitative and qualitative methodological background, and I am using these skills and expertise to explore the vulnerabilities and burdens of poor water access experienced by women in rural Ghana. Women disproportionately bear the burden of poor water access and water fetching in Ghana and Africa because of stereotypical gender norms and practices. Thus, I aim to highlight and expand knowledge on the gender impact of, and grassroots solutions for, poor access to safe water in rural areas. Information from this research will help make progress to attain gender equity in water access, empower women and promote the human right to water, which is inextricably linked to other relevant human rights.
