"I am Hongxiu Wang. Hong means flood in Chinese which connects me with water research since I was born."

"My lived experience of heavily contaminated groundwater and disappearing river water in my hometown raises my concerns and interest in water."

"I am committed to water research to help us understand water movements for sustainable water usage."

Water Experience

My research focuses on using stable isotopes of water to reveal hydrological and ecohydrological processes. Specifically, I am using cryogenic vacuum distillation, direct vapor equilibration, centrifugation, and high-pressure squeezing to determine isotopic value of soil water and plant water. Due to the limitations of these current methods, I am also trying to develop new methods. Furthermore, I am intersted in where plants obtain their water under dry and wet conditions and the relationship between plant water use and hydrological processes.
