Women in Water - A Global Perspective of Roles, Responsibilities, and Opportunities
In recognition of Gender Equality Week, this public event will consist of a series of three short talks focused on women and water around the world. Gender equality and clean water and sanitation (including sustainable water resources management) represent two of the seventeen global Sustainable Development Goals. This global plan of action seeks to improve the lives of people and protect the planet while ensuring economic prosperity. Water and women are key drivers in achieving this end. The event will describe water-related challenges in Canada and East Africa and how these affect women in particular, as well as exploring the strengths and resources that women bring to stewarding and governing our water resources for health, livelihoods, and the environment.
The schedule is as follows:
2:00 pm - Introduction
2:10 pm - Water and Indigenous Women in Canada, Erin Poochay, Yellow Quill First Nation and Lalita Bharadwaj, School of Public Health
