Dr Li pursues fundamental science projects as well as interdisciplinary research topics, such as the examination of convective mechanisms over the plains east of the Rockies, study of the climate-related precipitation extremes. The ongoing interdisciplinary projects include the examination of the changing agro-climatic conditions, the feedback of land-surface change to regional weather or hydrological-related extremes using continental scale cloud-resolving coupled atmosphere-land surface-hydrology modeling system, as well as crop-climate-soil moisture interactions and its impact on local heatwaves. She mainly uses large-scale climate and earth system modeling as the main tool to solve climate change related problems.
